Inspiring the Next Gen at the Children’s Countryside Day

On Wednesday 5th June, the Particularly Good Potatoes team joined over 1,700 children and teachers for this year’s Children’s Countryside Day, hosted by the fantastic Glendale Agricultural Society.

With a focus on showing young people where their food comes from and how the countryside works, the event was a brilliant opportunity to get hands-on, spark curiosity – and have a bit of good old-fashioned fun.

Getting Stuck In: Potatoes, Sack Races & Soil-Filled Hands

Our stand, led by Rebecca and Martyn, gave children the chance to truly get their hands dirty – in the best way! Activities included:

  • Digging and planting real potatoes, learning what’s involved in getting a crop from seed to harvest.
  • A good old-fashioned sack race, where we explained how hessian sacks were once used to carry potatoes before modern machinery took over.
  • Educational chats about how long potatoes take to grow, the work that goes into farming them, and the many different products they can become – from chunky chips to creamy mash.

It was a lively, fun-filled day with plenty of questions, lots of muddy hands and plenty of smiling faces.

“It’s so important that children understand where their food comes from and how much care goes into growing it,” said Rebecca Maitland (Marketing Manager for Particularly Good Potatoes).

“It was a brilliant day – and seeing the kids so engaged and interested was incredibly rewarding.”

We’re proud to support the Glendale Agricultural Society and all the work they do to educate, inspire and connect the next generation to food and farming.

Here’s to more days like this – and to the future farmers, food lovers and spud enthusiasts we met along the way! 🌱🥔
